For 2013, Honda has updated the Crosstour in an effort to make it less of an Accord hatchback and more of a true crossover vehicle.
The front end now features more pronounced fog light openings with mesh surrounds, while the grille and headlights are both slightly tweaked for a more aggressive look. A new slotted design piece is integrated below the headlights to help give the Crosstour more visual width. The rear tailgate has been revised with a more horizontal design with the use of new sculpting.
Two new exterior colors will be available for 2013, one of which is similar to the color features on the Crosstour Concept. While the concept sports five-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels, the 2013 Crosstour will feature 18-inch alloy wheels.
According to Honda, the flared fenders and new contrasting lower door moldings help give it a more SUV-like stance. In our eyes, it still looks like an overgrown hatchback rather than a true crossover or SUV.
The Crosstour is still based on the Accord Sedan, but retains the taller ride height and is still much heavier. We expect weight will still affect the handling and fuel economy.
While Honda won't be showing the updated interior at the New York Auto Show, we are told the Crosstour will be more refined with revised trim materials. A new eight-inch screen will be part of the in-dash infotainment system and keyless ignition will be standard. All V-6 models will feature steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters. The interior of the Crosstour has always been roomy and comfortable, and we don't expect this to change.
For 2013 the Crosstour will still be available with 2.4-liter four-cylinder and 3.5-liter V-6. While the revised V-6 receives a new six-speed automatic transmission, the four-cylinder model is still saddled with a five-speed automatic. Both powertrains are available with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is only available on the EX-L V-6 model.
Fuel economy hasn't been announced, but Honda says the revised V-6 featuring cylinder deactivation and a six-speed manual will feature improved overall fuel economy numbers.
New safety equipment will be available on the 2013 Crosstour, ranging from a forward collision warning system to a lane departure warning system. Both systems will use a camera mounted on the windshield. A rearview backup camera, expanded driver's rear view mirror, and re-shaped headrests are all standard. Honda's new LaneWatch system which uses a camera on the passenger side mirror will be available.
New fuel economy and pricing will be set closer to launch later this fall.
